Greyhounds in Estonia

Although greyhound breeding in Estonia has yet very short history ( about 7 years), we, the owners of this wonderful race, are very glad to share our experience with the greys professionals and funs from other countries

The first show class greyhound appeared in Estonia only in 1998. From Finnish kennel“Wilheelmiinan” a very elegant, red bitch Molla-Maja (EST&LV&LT&UA&RUS&BALT&INT CH; LT&LVJW99; EST&LT W01; BALT&LV W02; EST&LT W04),owner Piret Koor ,kennel Chansonetest, has been imported. She has been very successful in competitions both in Estonia and abroad. It was also Molla-Maja who has given the very first “Estonian” greyhound letter in 2001. The father was Int. CH Multi CH &MULT W Jet’s Keep the Snake . The brood has brought four male pappies. Owner Katrin Raie ,kennel Dragonhunter,Estonia, are the mostly showed ones at the competitions.

After Wilheelmiian Molla-Maja, in 1999 we have received an Jailhouse Rock ,male, from Norwegian kennel “Azravi,s” He is a wonderful representative of the Scandinavian greyhound show type: got striking temperament, active competitor and is a brilliant race dog. Going bit ahead, I’d like to mention that Azravi,s Jailhouse Rock ( Int CH ,EST CH,ESTW 2001, owner Katrin Raie ,kennel Dragonhunter,Estonia) has given a wonderful brood in my kennels.

In 1999, three months after I have brought Azravi’s Jailhouse Rock, I have brought my first greyhound from Russia. The father of the Hepi Hepri Irbis ( male puppy) was a representative of an English kennel Geysyde Christmas and had race dog blood on the mother side. I have learned a lot with Hepi Hepri Irbis ,( World Promise 2000,EST&FIN CH&KlW-02), We have been very successful on the exhibitions and had a real good time together. With him I have learned to train and exhibit this breed on the ring.

Getting more and more acquainted with the greyhounds, I naturally decided to buy a female of show-blood into my kennel. And, in year 2000, I have flown in from England, greys homeland, an absolutely wonderful, aristocratic, blue-brindle Gayside Chrismas Magic. She became an ancestor of many greys generations in my kennel.

Our first litter we got in 2003 and was the second grey’s litters in Estonia. The father was Lv CH Eikica XXL( owner Lida Prokofjeva kennel Nice’s Greyhounds,Latvia) from the Denmark . We got 7 male , 2 female pappies. I kept Ferrari – a male pappy, for my own kennel ESTET CLASSIC. Today, Ferrari has turned into the intelligent, beautiful and strong male. We successfully take part in various competitions. Other successful “brother and sisters” of this brood are :

The last one has already sired three litters in Denmark and Germany.

In total, there are 5 champions coming out of my first brood.

On the May 25th this year, Geysyde Christmas Magic has got another 5 female and 3 male puppies. That is second litter in my kennel and the third in Estonia. This time, the already mentioned, Int CH Azravi,s Jailhouse Rock, become the father. At the moment, the puppies are only 5 months old and I hope very much that we’ll get another portion of an excellent representatives of this breed in Estonia. I’ll keep two girls in my kennels for further breeding.

In the conclusion, I’d like to mention that there are already 14 greyhounds living in Estonia. Still, it is too few in the comparison with the other breeds we got here. One can say that greyhounds are still quite exotic here. However, our dogs are successfully competing on the international competitions and getting high recognition from the jury.

We continue tell you about show greyhounds at Estonia.

Pity, but only Estet Classic kennel breed greyhound at our small country in the period of 2005-2008 years.

There was very quality dogs at our V-litter was born at 2005 year (INT,EST,RUS,LV,LT,BALT CH, ESTW-01 Azravis Jailhouse Rock & EST,LV,LTU,RUS CH Gaysyde Christmas Magic) . Two

females and 2 males were stay at Estonia. The rest 3 girls left us to their new homes at Finland, Russia and Poland . These V-puppies were not only perspective show dogs, but they were outstanding sport/hunting dogs with incredible health, hunting instinct and stamina. All of them who entered coursing, had got perfect results.

The best show dog was Estet Classic Valley Lexus (owner kennel Estet Classic). Especially we are proud of her tittles as Euro Junior Winner 2006 and World Junior Winner 2006, where she won at very high level competition. Also she had got Junior BIS 1 at Baltik Winner-06.

Lexus many times had got the placing at Best in Show and SBIS. Lexus loves shows, but she is very successeful racing dog.. Her tittles at the 2 years old age are: World Junior Winner 2006, Euro Junior Winner 2006,BALT Junior Winner 2006,PL J W 06,Est & LV & LT & Rus

Junior CH, Est&LV&LT & Fin & Rus Ch, INT CH .

We plan to show her more, but now (at the end of October 2008) we are waiting her first litter sired by excellent Skyings Excalibur ( owner Inger Johanson). We will tell about that litter at the next edition of the Handbook.

We are happy to mention our Estet Classic Voyage Merry( Azravis Jailhouse Rock & Gaysyde Christmas Magic) owner Ekaterina Parichenko. This is very high show- quality dog, but she very seldom entered to shows. The judge Ake Cronander gave her BOS at the most large Russian show Evrazia 2007 at very strong ring. Voyage Merry more like to race and she was 5th at the LC EuroWinner 2007 at Swiss,But at the next year she had got the tittle LC EURO WINNER 2008 at Sweeden.

Estet Classic Valliant Viking(owner Katrin Raie) and Estet Classic Velvety Orchid( owner Maarit Torn) the rest puppies from V-litter also are the perfect show and racing greyhounds.

The Estet Classic G-litter ( Gaysyde Christmas Spirit & Gaysyde Christmas Magic) was born at December 2007. Two pups was reserved to Estonia and the rest 4 travelled to new homes at Finland, Czech, England and Russia.

The female named Glamorous was kept at the Estet Classic kennel. She was born very easy and we were surprised how her brindled coat sparkle brightiy. We looked at her s-lined stripes with great happyness, because we specially “ordered” such girl from her mother Bella !(Gaysyde Christmas Magic)

Glamorous won the BIS Baby at the World Dog Show 2007 and it was her first dog show.

She had got BOB PUPPY & BIS Puppy at the Mariefred SPECIAL GREYHOUND SHOW and she was –BOB PUPPY & BIS 3 PUPPY IN SHOW at the next day at Mariefred SPECIAL SHOW OF X GROUP.

At the age of 10 months old she had got the tittle JBIS and BIS of 5-10th groups at the Special Dog Show (Riga, Latvia). The very reputable judge wrote in her show descriprion:”… the star is coming..”

Also Glamorous won two CACIB shows at the row in Lithuania with tittles BIS JUNIOR over 300 juniors dogs at the Junior Best in Show!!

At the age of 18 month Estet Classic Glamorous had got CAC and RES CACIB at the World Winner 2008 ,Stockholm over many outstanding dogs.

Very often at all Dog Show on which Glamorous takes part we reach the final BIS or we become Winners BIS !!

Her brother from G-litter is Estet Classic Gonfalonier,( owner Elaine and Bob Newsham) won Junior class at CRUFT’S 2008! And later at the same year Gonfalonier became the best male of FCI Euro Sighthound 2008 in Le Touquet/France. The title and the perfect discribing was done by judge Göran Bodegard.

At 24-25 of December 2008 all Cristmas night and day, we have getting presents from our Bella – it was our special Christmas litter: 2 female s and 5 males. One female and 2 males was stay at Estonia, the rest of the litter gone to France and Czech. They are still very young and all their winnings are in future.

3 greyhounds were imported to Estonia during 2005-2008 yy.

Kennel Dragonhunter took the beautiful red male named Azravi’s Dragonhunters Fly by Night (Jet’s Somewhat O’a Stallion & Azravi’s A Midsummer Night Dream )from Norway.

The next import were to Estet Classic- white beauty Fionn Clann Paisley( Epic Brave At Sobers & Hyperion Midnight Garden) and the son of our Estet Classic Ferrari (Eikica XXL & Gaysyde Christmas Magic) and the very nice female HYPERION’S HIGH SOCIETY – Artefakt Tallinn.

We very often have heared that coursing is very dangerouse for show greyhound as well as “working muscles” look not noble. But working qualities are equal important for us as well as the show beauty. So we let our dogs to play a lot, run and swim.

Our dogs have perfect health, they are strong and happy also they very easy and with great pleasure run coursings track. We proudly show results of our trainings at coursings and shows.

We, as the most breeders, dream to get the ideal greyhound the dog with ideal proportions, beautifull S-lines and nobless. But beautiful dog without classic flying movement is the useless for us. We would be glad to bred show greyhounds who will be health, strong, active, and keeps the hunting instinct up to high age.
